More Details

Made from aerospace grade aluminium alloy, the aluminium alloy 5052 combines chromium, magnesium and aluminium to make one of the highest strength alloys. Strong and light, it’s a key material found in the thousands of satellites orbiting earth. Fatigue strength is higher than most aluminum alloys. Particularly good resistance to marine atmosphere and salt water corrosion. Each pair comes with a Share Your Sun cleaning cloth, our space saving Trifold case and packaged up in our recyclable nest box.

The more we travel space, the more we see how precious our people and planet are. That’s why every pair of Bird Sunglasses gives the gift of clean solar light through our partnership with SolarAid, replacing dirty kerosene lamps in rural communities in Africa. Our hope is that when you wear these frames, just like an astronaut looking down from space, you’ll have a Bird’s eye view on our beautiful planet. Come join our flock.

Share your sun

Every pair sold brings the gift of clean and safe light to a family in central Africa through our Share Your Sun partnership with SolarAid.

598 million people in Africa alone have no access to electricity. Without electricity families have no clean source of light, leaving millions to rely on expensive and dangerous alternatives. With a solar light, everything changes. These little lamps are safe, clean and affordable. They give off hours of light in the evening so families can earn, learn and feel safe after dark. Just one lamp can transform the fortunes of an entire family and is the first step on an energy ladder to full electrification.

For each lamp this equates to:

  • 4 people reached
  • £145 saved in not having to buy fuel
  • 1006 hours of extra study time for students and children
  • 1.1 tonnes of CO2 emissions averted
  • 2 people experiencing better health
